Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has confirmed that the club will send an official delegation to London for Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, expressing optimism as the Bavarian giants boast their highest number of individual and club nominations in a decade.
Leading the accolades for Bayern is Harry Kane, whom Dreesen labeled a “360-degree striker” in an interview captured by @iMiaSanMia. “We would, of course, be absolutely delighted if Harry Kane were to win the Ballon d’Or. Harry sets new records
year after year, but his 73 goals for FC Bayern and the England national team carry particular significance this time around. I like to call him our ‘360-degree striker’ because he always has the entire pitch in view, works tirelessly and makes his teammates better. He has continued to develop his game and, in doing so, has transformed our entire team’s style of play. He is a global superstar without any airs and graces, while also being a gentleman who sets an outstanding example both on and off the pitch,” said the CEO.
Beyond Kane, Dreesen also singled out French winger Michael Olise as a future Ballon d’Or recipient, marking a milestone year where four Bayern players feature on the men’s 30-man shortlist for the first time in ten years. “Michael Olise also thoroughly deserves his place on the shortlist, and I am convinced that he, too, will win the Ballon d’Or one day. Overall, our many nominations are a wonderful recognition of a fantastic season. For the first time in ten years, four FC Bayern players are once again on the Ballon d’Or shortlist. On top of that, Vincent Kompany is recognized as one of the best coaches in the world, and for the first time, both our women’s and men’s teams have been nominated for Club of the Year. Naturally, we will travel to London with all due humility, hoping that we will also have the opportunity to celebrate a few awards,” he said.
Coupled with Vincent Kompany’s nomination for Coach of the Year and historical, simultaneous Club of the Year nominations for both the FC Bayern men’s and women’s teams, the club heads to London ready to celebrate an exceptional campaign.
