Another 2-4 week, another day where I question why I keep writing these articles. Alas, these are the weeks that they are most needed.
10,000 Wins
With Cleveland’s 6-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday, they became just the third team to hit the 10,000 win mark. They join the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox as the only teams to reach this milestone. It could not have come at a better time for the team who has been in a slump since the All-Star break. While they couldn’t use the momentum from the big
win to take the series on Sunday, there’s still hope that they can flip the switch with a new week.
New Faces Making Big Contributions
While the wins haven’t been there, the players that the Guardians acquired at the trade deadline are doing their part. Foster Griffin had a rough first game in a Guardians uniform, but he made adjustments and improved in his second game. He went five innings, giving up three runs (only one earned) on four hits. He has struck out nine across nine innings so far. Nathaniel Lowe has also shown promise, averaging a .286./297/.543 line through 10 games with the team. While the line hasn’t been as good for Jo Adell, he’s still making big contributions. He’s had two home runs and five RBI since joining the team. If these three can continue their success and the rest of the team can start firing on all cylinders, we may be able to get back where we belong – at the top of the division.
Bibee Getting Better
While it hasn’t been the best season for Tanner Bibee, he’s taken the last few games and worked hard to improve. Over his last seven games, he has a 3.89 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 44 innings. In his last game on August 16th, he went six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits. Of course, the Guardians couldn’t pull off a win and he was charged with the loss, but the quality start was promising.
