First Maxx Crosby, now Myles Garrett.
Two elite edge rushers that the Steelers were scheduled to play in the AFC North are now off Pittsburgh’s schedule, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday that the Cleveland Browns are finalizing a deal to send Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams.
However, Cleveland’s edge room won’t be depleted, as the Rams are reportedly sending Jared Verse, the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year, to the Browns as part of the deal along with a 2027 first-round pick “and other draft-pick
compensation still being negotiated to the Browns.”
Schefter later reported the additional compensation is a 2028 second rounder and 2029 third.
Verse recorded 7.5 sacks in 2025. The 30-year-old Garrett recorded 23, an NFL single season record, and is the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Garrett publicly requested a trade from Cleveland before the 2025 season, but eventually agreed to a four year, $160 million deal to stay with the team that drafted him. However, the Browns went 5-12 in 2025, finishing last in the division, well short of Garrett’s “ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl.”
Garrett has recorded a sack or more in four of his last five games against the Steelers.
