Fabrizio Romano reports that Serie A darlings Como 1907 are “interested” in Trevoh Chalobah, evidently looking to improve their squad ahead of their inaugural Champions League campaign next season.
Of course, “interest” alone means very little in the world of transfers, especially with Romano adding that there is a “big gap in valuation at this stage” between what Chelsea might want and what Como might be able to pay. Como’s record transfer is the €22.5m they paid for Real Betis winger Jesús Rodríguez
last summer. And though that’s a step up from the sub-€5m club record that stood until 2024, the new ownership is still being “careful with their budget”. BlueCo could never.
Chalobah, who’s currently with the England squad at the World Cup, does have only two years left on his Chelsea contract (plus an option), which traditionally has been the time when transfer valuations can be maximized. Romano does not hazard a guess as to how much Chelsea might demand, but we apparently value him “highly”. He represents “Pure Profit™” after all, and our spreadsheets dream of such things at night.
Having Chalobah leave after a season where he was our only consistent (and consistently available) center back would be a nice swift kick in the Cobhams, so I guess we better keep an eye on this potential situation. Wesley Fofana’s contract ain’t gonna keep paying itself on its own!
