According to a report from Bild journalist Heiko Niedderer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia
), Fulham goalkeeper and former Bayer Leverkusen star Bernd Leno could be an option for Bayern Munich in the future:Fulham goalkeeper and former Germany international Bernd Leno (34) is on Bayern’s shortlist as they look for an experienced backup to Jonas Urbig for next season. Leno is under contract at Fulham until 2027, but the Premier League club have an option to extend it by another year. Leno would be open
to a move to Bayern towards the end of his career – he comes from near Stuttgart and would therefore be closer to his family.
It is still uncertain when Manuel Neuer will retire, but when he does make that decision, it is expected that Sven Ulreich will do the same (and maybe take a role on Bayern Munich’s campus as a coach). If that were to happen after this season, it would not be altogether shocking to see the Bavarians eye an experienced veteran like Leno.
It is unclear whether Urbig would benefit more from having a competitor or a mentor in the backup role. With Bayern Munich linked to both kinds of goalkeepers, it could make for an interesting decision if Neuer and Ulreich retire after this season.
