A cheaper option on the menu for Bayern (Sport Bild’s Christian Falk)
Now that the Anthony Gordon chapter of the summer transfer window is official over for Bayern Munich, it is time to move on and start figuring out other pieces who the club thinks can fill important roles on the squad.
One name that has come up before is Ajax attacker Mika Godts, who is a different style of player than Gordon. Godts could be someone that the Bavarians want for a back-up spot right now and a bigger role in the future:
Bayern lost the race for Anthony Gordon to FC Barcelona. Bayern had
an agreement with Gordon for several weeks, but Barcelona also secured an agreement of their own in the last week, and they have an agreement with Newcastle, and that was the problem for Bayern Munich. Max Eberl wasn’t allowed to make a bid of over €60m – that was the budget from the supervisory board. So, for Bayern, it’s okay that they didn’t sign Gordon, as they wouldn’t have paid the price Barcelona did. Bayern now have to find another solution. I heard it will be a younger player – not a star like Anthony Gordon. It could be a player like Mika Godts at Ajax, so Bayern have to discuss now. They’ve already had talks while they were talking to Anthony Gordon with other players. I think it will be a cheaper, younger solution as backup to Luis Diaz and Harry Kane. AFC Bournemouth attacker Junior Kroupi (19) is also on the list alongside Godts.
From an affordability standpoint, Godts should be attainable, but he is already an important, starting player for Ajax. Would he want to risk that to take a sub role at Bayern Munich? Maybe, but it could be a tough sell.
Real eyeing Neves? (ESPN)
João Neves is pretty spectacular and Real Madrid would like to add him to their collection:
COPE reports that Real Madrid want to bring in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder João Neves. Neves, 21, is one of the top prospects in Europe and has a contract until 2030, so would not come cheap. Another player who could boost Madrid’s flagging squad is their former winger Víctor Muñoz, who could be re-signed from Osasuna as the club still own 50% of his rights. And the report also states Madrid want to secure some defensive reinforcements and are targeting Inter Milan center back Alessandro Bastoni at around €50 million.
It appears that Real Madrid is going to look to be active in this window. That could drive prices up on a lot of players. After a dismal, trophyless campaign, Los Blancos might want to splurge this summer.
Hainer loves progress of Bayern campus (Sport Bild via @iMiaSanMia)
Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has been impressed by the developments within the club’s campus operations.
“Before it was said that as a young player you had no chance at Bayern. That’s no longer true. This year we had ten debuts from the FC Bayern Campus, average age 17 – both records. We need to focus more on the Campus – If you have the future in your own house, you don’t have to buy expensive,“ Hainer said.
The tide does seem to have turned with the scouts doing better with identification and coaches putting in hard work to develop the talent. Things are, indeed, looking up.
Spurs still want Palhinha (Sport Bild’s Christian Falk)
While Sporting CP could be the leader in the clubhouse at the moment, Tottenham Hotspur still wants to keep João Palhinha:
✅ It is TRUE: The most likely scenario for João Palhinha is that he’ll stay put at Tottenham. We know they’re going to stay in the Premier League. I loved the scenes of the midfielder celebrating so passionately after scoring the pivotal goal against Everton to keep them in the English top-flight on the final day of the season. He was showing so much love to the supporters, so I think it’s clear that he wants to stay. But in the end, I don’t think it’s a question of if he’ll stay at Tottenham, but rather how much Spurs will bid to Bayern Munich. They can make it easy and say we want him so much, we’ll pay the release clause of €30m. That’s the route Bayern are hoping for. But I think Tottenham are going to try to negotiate the price down.
I think Palhinha is too expensive at the moment for Sporting Lisbon. I heard they tried, at first, to get another loan deal. So, I think if Tottenham make a bid of over €20m-25m [£17.3m-21.6m], he’ll stay in London. But, please, Tottenham – think of Bayern Munich! They’re not such a rich club. Go ahead and give them €30m.
It is clear that Bayern Munich needs to sell Palhinha, but what kind of value he holds on the open market is up for debate.
Juve won’t sell Yildiz (ESPN)
For anyone thinking that former Bayern Munich academy star Kenan Yildiz would be leaving Juventus this summer, The Old Lady is not about to just let him walk away:

Hoeneß wants 50+1 gone (Der Spiegel via @iMiaSanMia)
Bayern Munich legend Uli Hoeneß recently spoke about why he wants 50+1 to be abolished.
“FC Bayern can always refinance itself through international funding opportunities, but clubs like Mönchengladbach and other clubs can use the money to create a level playing field. FC Bayern will always be able to run further and further away [from the rest of the Bundesliga] with its resources. In my opinion, that can only be balanced by giving other clubs the chance to get sponsors or shareholders,” Hoeneß said.
It is a tough situation for other Bundesliga clubs at the moment. Many are struggling and do not have an abundance of revenue streams available to tap into. As the master of its domain at the moment, getting rid of 50+1 could make the future a little more treacherous as well, but it seems as if the Bavarians are willing to explore a brave, new world.
