Konrad Laimer has been a revelation for Bayern Munich. Brought in from RB Leipzig, the Austrian midfielder turned full-back has been as successful of a transfer as imaginable. The Austrian has been happy
to play anywhere and has succeeded in every role asked of him thus far. Perhaps more so than ever though, the Austrian has elevated his game this season under Vincent Kompany’s leadership.
With a number of injuries afflicting the midfield and defense in 2025, Laimer was Bayern’s duct tape solution as the Austrian was deployed in pretty much any squad gap and did an exceptional job wherever he was needed. Fast forward to today, as Bayern has recovered from some of its longer-term injury issues, Laimer has earned a starting role as a right-back. Laimer was recently asked what Laimer separates Kompany out of all the great managers he has played under.
“That’s hard to say. He definitely helps us a lot. He has a clear plan for how we wants to play football and conveys it very well. He has a very good feel for when to push things a bit, because he senses when we’re not quite switched on. It’s a lot of fun to play under him, to learn how he sees the game and how he wants football to be,” Laimer answered Bundesliga as captured via @iMiaSanMia.
It is clear to see that Vincent Kompany has a real connection with this squad. The Belgian manager has experienced the same things as the Bayern squad, being at a top club and the pressure to win trophies. While it is not uncommon or rare for a player to become a manager, that is clearly a connection that the Bayern players can relate to with Kompany and gives him the perfect sense of when to push or pull back from the players.
While Kompany’s signing to Bayern was originally scrutizined by the majority of the fanbase, the signs are all pointing to a successful relationship between the former Manchester City defender and the Bavarian giants.
