Let’s get right to the rest of this week’s Olympic Sports round-up:
Field Hockey (8-2, 1-2)
The #6 Orange won both games this weekend. After beating Duke 1-0 on a night when the 2015 National Champions were
honored, Syracuse had to rally for two goals in the final two minutes to beat Penn State 3-2.
Syracuse will host Colgate on Friday night.
Women’s Soccer (4-5-4, 0-4-1)
Syracuse headed west this week and it wasn’t a memorable weekend on the pitch as the Orange dropped both games. After falling 1-0 to California, the #3 Stanford Cardinal beat Syracuse 4-0. In that game, Shea Vanderbosch became the all-time saves leader in school history.
The Orange will host Clemson next Sunday.
Men’s Soccer (4-4-2, 1-2-0)
A successful week for the men as they won both games. Carlos Zambrano’s hat trick paced the 3-0 win over Colgate which made Ian McIntyre the all-time Syracuse win record. Then Syracuse went west and beat California 2-0 for their 1st ACC win on the season.
The Orange will host BC on Friday night.
Volleyball (9-3, 1-1)
Syracuse opened ACC play with a split of their games. After winning 3-1 at Notre Dame, the Orange fell 3-0 to Louisville. Skylar George’s 15-kill, 21-dig day keyed the win in South Bend.
The Orange head back on the road to face Virginia Tech and Virginia next weekend.
Cross-Country
The men turned in a strong performance at Missouri on Friday. Syracuse finished in 6th place in a race dominated by Iowa State. The Orange picked up some valuable at-large points with their performance as the top three finishers- Assaf Harari, Sam Lawlor and Matthew Neill picked up 27 places in the final kilometer.
Syracuse’s women finished 15th which should get them back into the rankings this week. Selma Anderson and Emma Eastman were the top two finishers for the Orange who will be back in action this Friday at Lehigh for the Paul Short Invitational.
Women’s Ice Hockey (0-2, 0-2)
Syracuse dropped both games to #6 Minnesota Duluth by identical 4-0 scores. Freshman goalie Ava Drabyk made 77 games in the two games as she replaces Allie Kelley in net.
The Orange travel to face Stonehill next weekend looking for their first goal and first win of the season.
