Reports surfaced on Friday detailing a deal in the works worth $20 million or more annually for Ole Miss for Adidas to replace Nike as the university’s apparel and jersey provider.
There has been rumblings on this for a couple weeks, and rumors the Rebels would be repping Adidas come 2027. On Friday, some numbers began floating on social media about the size and impact of the partnership.
In full disclosure, the Cup has not been a huge fan of Adidas due to the quality of some of other SEC opponents gear in previous years. However, $20 million a year can literally change the conversation especially if the good people at German-based Adidas can perfect powder blue.
There have been at least some assurances from folks like Chase Parham that Ole Miss will have creative control over what Adidas produces for the university.
For those of us who are old as dust, it wasn’t that long ago this happened. I’m not proposing F*** the Cowbells baseball warm-ups, but its good to know its a possibility with no recourse clearly.
The biggest news out of this is this move infuses a good bit of cash into all the sports programs for NIL deals without a penny coming from boosters and fans. Ole Miss is flexing its latest trend into relevancy in some of the most popular sports and benefitting from it like never before – huge tip of the cap to athletic director Keith Carter.
