Welcome to the third post in our twelve-part series reviewing each team’s signing class to date. These articles aim to provide a snapshot look at each team and lay out possible next steps once the transfer
portal opens. Teams will be examined in alphabetical order. Today will look at the Rams.
The Road So Far:
Number who signed in December: 26
Number who will enroll early: 10
Number of states represented:
13247 Composite Rankings (subject to change): 64
MWCConnection December Ranking: 3
Positional Strengths: Defensive Back, Offensive Line
Notable signees: Jermaine Santana-Diaz, Troy Foster
Overall thoughts:
Colorado State’s class is one of the better ones in the Mountain West, but that only begins to tell the story. Most of the time, when a head coach is fired, the recruiting class begins to fall apart as they are courted by other schools or flee to find a more stable situation. This 2026 class wasn’t immune to that, but the remaining staff did a tremendous job not only holding on to the majority of the class but also adding new verbal commits in the weeks between head coaches. This class is a testament to the power of relationships that are built between coaches and players.
Not only were the Rams able to sign a full class on National Signing Day, but it’s full of talent. Playing time is potentially up for grabs as the current roster continues to announce their intentions to enter the portal. Of course, the new staff will add their own transfers, but it doesn’t mean some true freshmen can’t break through and appear on the two-deep.
The quality of talent in Colorado State’s 2026 class flew under the radar a bit due to the dark cloud of a coaching change, but it will give new head coach Jim Mora a jumpstart on rebuilding the roster and shaping it to his liking as he attempts to raise the bar for the program.
The Road Ahead:
Expected Level of Transfer Additions: High
Top Position Targets Remaining: Quarterback, running back, wide receiver
Overall thoughts:
For those who pay attention to social media, signs of a significant portal exodus have already begun for Colorado State. Players and coaches alike will likely keep evaluating one another and making those decisions on staying or going once the calendar turns to January. That means the staff should be quite active in the transfer portal.
The top priority for the Rams should be securing a starting quarterback. The team played three different players at the position and none were effective. A new QB is needed, and that was clear even before two of them announced they would enter the portal. Every position on the roster could likely use an upgrade and more players, but the emphasis should be on the skill positions. CSU has lost many of their leading rushers and pass catchers already and will need to find talented replacements to compete next season.
Expect Colorado State’s staff to add a high number of players between now and February, once the transfer portal opens up. The emphasis will likely be players who are able to step on the field and play right away. There will be lots of spots to fill, a proven head coach, and a lot of snaps to go around for interested players.
