Conditions look much better for fans heading to San Diego’s Petco Park for WWE’s Survivor Series.
After recent storms made this one of the city’s ten wettest Novembers on record, the weather has finally
cleared, and so has a once grim forecast. After predicting a 40% chance of rain, The Weather Channel now expects partly cloudy skies with a small chance of rain and lows in the 50s for Saturday’s Thanksgiving-week tradition.
As conditions improve, fans have even more to look forward to, with the excitement kicking off early. On Friday, the WWE Superstore opens at the San Diego Convention Center, home of Comic-Con. Fans can pick up exclusive merchandise and meet select WWE Superstars through various photo ops and autograph sessions.
Superstore, Super Star Power
As expected, photo ops with hometown star Dominik Mysterio have sold out, along with appearances by Jey Uso, Rhea Ripley, and WWE Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer.
John Cena will also meet fans in what is set to be his final premium live event appearance this weekend. Like “Dirty” Dom, his photo ops have sold out, going for more than $440 each.
With an all-star lineup and a main event featuring ten of the biggest names in WWE history, such as Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, and CM Punk, this year’s Survivor Series is on track to be the biggest wrestling event ever held in San Diego.
Petco Park is projected to host over 36,000 fans on Saturday. The current mark would easily surpass the city’s previous record, set by WWE in 2008, when nearly 16,000 fans attended Extreme Rules at the San Diego Sports Arena, according to SoCal Uncensored. That event was the last premium live event held in San Diego.
Men at Work
On Wednesday, crews were at work early, making final preparations for Saturday’s event. Those on site declined to comment, focused on the tight schedule.
Production for Survivor Series began early last week, starting with flooring laid over the San Diego Padres’ playing field. By week’s end, the canopy covering the ring was in place, and by Monday, the double steel cage for the two WarGames matches was ready.
Work at Petco Park has continued into the late evening, giving nearby residents quite a view. Despite being on the West Coast, the earlier post–daylight saving sunset means WWE’s production team has been fine-tuning lighting after dark to ensure its superstars shine when they take the field in America’s Finest City.
