Arizona softball senior catcher Sydney Stewart has wrapped up her senior season with one more accolade. After being named to the D1Softball All-American Second Team as well as Softball America All-America Second Team, Stewart was named to the NFCA All-American First Team.
The Big 12 Player of the Year was also one of the 25 finalists for the USA
Softball Player of the year. She set the program record for career slugging percentage at .866, and also was crowned the Big 12 batting champion with a .490 average in conference play.
Stewart was also awarded a “golden ticket” in the AUSL draft, and eventually was drafted to the Portland Cascade. A couple days following the disappointing regional loss to Duke, she signed her contract with Portland, meaning her softball career will continue on.
While the postseason was short for Arizona, Stewart’s awards help to remind people just how successful her season, along with the rest of the Wildcats’ season, was. She was named to the NFCA All-West First Team alongside junior centerfielder Regan Shockey.
Senior shortstop Tayler Biehl, senior pitcher Jalen Adams, and sophomore second baseman Sereniti Trice were named to the All-West Second Team. Biehl was given CSC Academic All-District honors with redshirt senior infielder Kiki Escobar and senior utility player Grace Jenkins.
Jenkins will hope to join Stewart in the AUSL one day and eventually be elevated from her spot on the reserve pool. Those in the reserve pool step in for players that are injured.
