Triple-A: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Marlins) 8, Norfolk Tides 5
Adley Rutschman did not play Thursday after appearing in one of Norfolk’s two games on Wednesday. Gary Sánchez started the day game as the designated hitter, and Maverick Handley worked behind the plate. Sánchez picked up a pair of singles in four at bats, and Handley finished 0-for-2 with two walks.
All three catchers spent time in Baltimore this season. Rutschman is expected to spend a full week rehabbing before rejoining the big league team.
Neither team scored in the first five innings, but Tides
starter Trey Gibson finally ran into some trouble in the sixth. Jacksonville ended the shutout on a three-run homer with two outs in the sixth.
The Jumbo Shrimp rattled off eight consecutive runs before Norfolk scored five in the ninth. Ryan Noda got the Tides on the board with a two-run homer, and Livan Soto followed with an Earl Weaver special. Unfortunately, the rally stopped there.
TT Bowens led the Tides with three hits. Enrique Bradfield went 0-for-4 from the leadoff spot but did work a walk.
