The Guardians beat the Giants 5-2 today, behind another strong effort from Gavin Williams.
Chase DeLauter and Jo Adell did not start today, as the former recovers from hamstring tenderness and the latter from a knee bruise. But, Adell did pinch-hit for Travis Bazzana and had a couple AB’s as a DH later in the game. However, the team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first behind an RBI single from Jose Ramirez, a sac fly from Nate Lowe and an RBI single from Patrick Bailey.
The Giants made things interesting
with a two-run homer from Willy Adames in the 4th, but Steven Kwan added an RBI single in the 6th and Brayan Rocchio had an insurance RBI single in the 7th. Kwan had three walks and a hit and Patrick Bailey had two hits and a walk.
Williams had the one mistake to Adames, but struck out 11 to get to 200 strikeouts for the season.
Cade Smith decided to end the game by getting Rafael Devers out so he put two guys on to get there. Other than that, Tim Herrin and Erik Sabrowski had shoutout outings and Hunter Gaddis managed a scoreless inning around a walk and a hit.
I can’t help but wish that Genao line drive would have dropped last night, but it didn’t, so I will be happy with a split and hope for a sweep in Colorado upcoming or Anaheim afterwards.
