Tonight, the Women’s Pro Baseball League will host its first win-or-go-home semifinal when the Los Angeles Queens and New York Heights face off at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Ill.
After the Queens took Game 1 10-3 on Sept. 10, the Heights put together a thrilling back-and-forth 9-7 win on Sept. 12 to force Game 3.
In Game 2, the Heights jumped out to a 7-2 lead after four innings thanks in part to a Denae Benites two-run homer.
The Queens rallied back to tie the game with three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to knot the game at 7-7 going into the final frame. That’s when New York’s Claire O’Sullivan and Keira Izumi hit back-to-back solo homers, which turned out to be enough to win the game.
The winner of Monday night’s showdown will face the top-seeded San Francisco Firebells in the first-ever WPBL championship. The best-of-five game series will begin on Wednesday.
