We’ve spoken before about how much we admire Duke Basketball’s social media team. Those guys consistently operate at a very high level and do innovative and cool things. Originally they started as a way
for Duke to counter the Duke Hating we all got to know during the middle of the Coach K era.
From that it has evolved into one of the most consistently creative and admired social media teams in not just college basketball but in all sports, not least of all because of a simple decision: they often give the cameras over to the players themselves and let themselves tell their own stories or interview each other, as we’ve seen on the Brotherhood Podcast.
This video, designed to welcome Duke great and former Mike Krzyzewski assistant Johnny Dawkins back home as he coaches his UCF team Tuesday night, is a bit different.
You see a hand holding up some classic photos of Johnny D from games in Cameron, matching up exactly where he was on the court and under the basket.
It’s really quite elegantly done and one of the nicest welcome homes we could imagine.
