Newcastle United has spent all of the pre-season without one of its most important defenders, but the Geordie faithful have now received a positive glimpse into Tino Livramento’s recovery from injury as the new campaign edges closer to returning.
After missing Newcastle’s friendlies against Gateshead and Bristol City, Livramento remains absent from the squad training in La Manga. However, the right-back has now shared an update of his own by posting several photos from his rehabilitation on Instagram.
Per NewcastleWorld, the images show Livramento working on the gym at seemingly full capacity. While the player didn’t share any on-field update, the images show him doing some exercises including lunges and work on a stationary bike.
The latest update follows comments made by then-head coach Eddie Howe before Newcastle departed for Spain. At the time, Howe expected most of his injured players to return around the La Manga camp but singled out Livramento as the exception.
“We anticipate that all the injured players that we have are on a good track at the moment,” Howe said. “They’re all looking like they’ll be back and available around La Manga, maybe Tino Livramento apart. I think the squad’s in relatively good health.”
Livramento has been sidelined since suffering the calf injury that forced him to withdraw from England’s World Cup squad, and Newcastle has since been linked with the addition of a right-back during the summer transfer window as the clubs seeks additional depth at the position to cover for potential fitness and health issues involving Tino.
How important will Livramento’s return be for Newcastle this season, and how important it is that the Magpies sign another right-back before the transfer window closes? Let us know your thoughts in the Coming Home Newcastle comments section below.
