According to a report from Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich is growing concerned about Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in star center-back Dayot Upamecano:
Bayern are taking PSG’s interest in Dayot Upamecano very seriously, due to the French club’s financial resources and the player’s agent Moussa Sissoko, who is very close to PSG and also represents Ousmane Dembélé. Bayern are prepared to offer Upamecano a pay rise (currently earns €16m gross per year including all bonuses). He would then be one of the highest earners, just one tier below Kane and Musiala. The sticking point is still the high signing fee, which Bayern are unwilling to pay, but Paris would. In the meantime, Bayern are in contact with alternatives such as Marc Guéhi and Ibrahima Konaté in case the negotiations with Upamecano fell through.
PSG would have no reservations on including whatever signing bonus Upamecano wants. While not listed in this report, Upamecano is also rumored to want a release clause as well, which has been perceived to be a point of contention in talks with Bayern Munich.
If Bayern Munich wants to keep Upamecano, it might have to open up its coffers a little more than it is comfortable with at this point. Real Madrid, Liverpool, Inter Milan, and Manchester United have all been linked to Upamecano of late, too.
Clearly, the Frenchman has options.
Bayern Munich is on break and the German national team has taken center stage, but that does not mean we are bereft of topics.
Luckily for all of us, there is much to talk about when it comes to both Bayern Munich, so let’s get to it. This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show:
- What to watch for during this international break — it might not necessarily be what you think.
- Robert Lewandowski might be contemplating retirement and why that is a little shocking even though he is 37-years-old.
- Gazing into the Crystal Ball — an early look at Bayern Munich’s final games before the winter break.
