Monday Night Football delivers a matchup worthy of the spotlight as the Los Angeles Rams welcome the Buffalo Bills to SoFi Stadium. With two legitimate Super Bowl contenders colliding in Week 5, the game could provide an early measuring stick for two teams with championship aspirations.
At the center of the stage are two quarterbacks who have already experienced the highest individual honor in the sport. Matthew Stafford and Josh Allen bring contrasting styles, tremendous experience and the ability
to take over a game when the pressure rises. But this matchup will be decided by much more than the players under center.
The battle in the trenches, the collection of playmakers surrounding each quarterback, and the ability of each defense to contain explosive plays could ultimately determine which team controls the night. With both offenses capable of creating problems in multiple ways, execution in critical situations should separate these two heavyweights.
QUARTERBACK
Matthew Stafford simply has not been the quarterback he was in 2025. Has he been bad? No. I don’t think the 6 touchdowns to 6 interceptions tells a full story of his 2026 season. He is top 5 in the NFL in passing yards (4th, 1189 yards). The defenses he has faced so far: San Francisco (3rd), New York Giants (8th), Philadelphia (16th), and Denver (17th), in terms of points allowed per game. He’s facing stiff competition. But he has definitely missed some throws, particularly in the SF and PHI games.
Josh Allen is an MVP front runner right now. If you look on ESPN, he is projected for 26 passing and 30(!) rushing touchdowns. He’s definitely playing better football right now than Matthew Stafford, but the two are the most recent NFL MVPs, so this could come down to who has the ball last.
SKILL PLAYERS
Puka Nacua is back for the Rams and that is a huge factor. The Rams edge over the Bills is not by much though. With Terrance Ferguson out, it looks like LA is relying on Kyren Williams, Tyler Higbee, and Davante Adams.
The Bills have James Cook, DJ Moore, and an improving Keon Coleman. It’s better than what Allen has had in recent years.
OFFENSIVE LINE
If the Rams have an edge here its also not by much. Coleman Shelton continues to be an underrated asset for the offensive line.
The Bills have two big offensive tackles that could give Josiah Stewart, Byron Young, and Wesley Bailey issues. The Bills interior line will be the question mark. Will their size win? Or will LA’s speed and explosiveness off the ball be too much?
DEFENSIVE LINE
Aaron Donald should return in Week 5 according to Sean McVay. That will add more firepower to the Rams defensive line featuring Kobie Turner, Poona Ford, Braden Fiske, Tyler Davis, and Ty Hamilton.
The Bills have a strong interior player in Deone Walker but Ed Oliver has not evolved into the player he should have been when selected 9th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.
SECONDARY
The Rams secondary has been worth every penny. Trent McDuffie and Quentin Lake have been two of the best in the NFL. Kam Curl is playing solid football and came up with a huge stop in Week 4. Kam Kinchens is flying around. There’s a lot to like about this group and it doesn’t even have Jaylen Watson fully healthy.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Doubt this will change all season. Rams always find a way to have one special teams blunder per game.
