It’s clear that the vibes are bad after the Green Bay Packers’ week 9 loss to the Carolina Panthers, but now we have some numbers to illustrate just how down fans are about the team this week.
The Packers
lost as 13.5-point favorites on Sunday, their biggest upset loss since at least the NFL-AFL merger. In that loss, tight end Tucker Kraft tore his ACL and will be out for the season. Between those two factors and the ongoing inconsistency of the Packers’ offense, fans are feeling desperate, and it showed up in this week’s SB Nation Reacts survey.
Prior to last week’s game, Packers fans surveyed were overwhelming in feeling that the team was headed in the right direction. Their big win over the Pittsburgh Steelers put the confidence index at 88 percent, the highest mark since the team’s 2-0 start. This week, however, that number dropped off the table, plummeting all the way down to just 23%.
That is the biggest single-week drop for any NFL team’s fan base all season, according to the Reacts results, and it comes with good reason. This week, the Packers face the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, with Philly holding the top spot in the NFC. It’s not getting any easier for this team, with the only advantageous part of the situation being that the game is at Lambeau Field.
With that said, the Detroit Lions also lost last week, allowing the Packers to maintain their tenuous hold on the lead in the NFC North division. Detroit’s loss to the Vikings dropped their fans’ confidence by a much smaller amount, however, going from 97% before the game to 64% this week.
Meanwhile, NFL fans as a whole aren’t expecting the Packers to come up with a win on Monday night against the Eagles, despite Green Bay being favored in the game by 2.5 points. The general consensus from the broader NFL Reacts survey this week is that the Eagles will win on Monday Night Football. Here are the full picks for all of this week’s games:
