Newcastle United could be set to make a major admission by selling Nick Woltemade just a few months after ponying up £65million to bring him to Tyneside.
The striker, who was signed last summer at the last minute as part of the club’s response to Alexander Isak’s record sale, could be on his way out this summer, with Eddie Howe set to stay.
The Magpies manager is locked into benching the starting Germany No. 9 on a weekly basis and the striker simply has no chance at building himself bright future
at the club under the current gaffer.
Woltemade’s strong start to the season was followed by some underperforming leading to his eventual move to the midfield because… reasons? and then his ultimate benching for the past few weeks.
Christian Falk reported the latest on the 24-year-old’s situation on Friday, revealing that his relationship with the club may be deteriorating.
“Normally, Nick Woltemade wouldn’t want to leave Newcastle in the summer,” Falk said. “However, we’ve all seen his socials… There is some background to this.”
Falk added that concerns around his standing at the club could influence what happens next.
“It could be that perhaps the German feels the sentiment within the report is shared by his manager,” Falk said. “This is why they could come to a new conclusion about what the next season holds for all parties involved.”
Despite the uncertainty, Falk noted that Woltemade himself would be open to staying, but a departure could be driven by Newcastle’s side and Howe’s summer transfer plans.
