CHAMPAIGN Ill — Mathew Bailey and the Illinois defense just knocked the wind out of SIU. After getting the ball to the Illinois 34, SIU had a chance to trim the already large lead.
Instead, QB DJ Williams had his passed tipped, and it landed in the arms of Bailey who ran it back 88 yards to complete the pick six.
Illinois’ defense has been facing scrutiny so far this season
for the amount of missed tackles. Today has been an improvement for defensive coordinator Bobby Hauck’s defense. The aggressiveness has lead to a sack, five QB hurries and 24 yards for loss so far.
They’ll need this improvement to remain if they want a chance against No. 6 Ohio State’s high octane offense next week.
