According to a report from Abendzeitung journalist Maximilian Koch (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, a Bayern Munich player who has spent the last three seasons on loan with Die Schwaben, could see his World Cup roster spot in jeopardy because of a poor relationship with Manuel Neuer.
If Nübel is omitted, FC Augsburg’s Finn Dahmen or Eintracht Frankfurt’s Noah Atubolu could get the callup:
Alexander Nübel is uncertain to be called up for the World Cup. Manuel Neuer
does not have the best of relationships with Nübel. This could cost the latter his World Cup spot. Nagelsmann would then choose between Dahmen and Atubolu.
A rift between Neuer and Nübel has been rumored for years, but this would seem to be extreme and unnecessary even for the most petty of rivalries as it could hurt the German national team, Bayern Munich, and Nübel alike.
It should also be noted that nothing has been released by the German national team as of yet, so all of this could change and should be considered unofficial.
