Despite going on a bit of a hot streak with three #Tribe26 commitments in three days, Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles suffered a decommitment today. Defensive back Tedarius Hughes finally pulled the trigger, flipping to Fran Brown and the Syracuse Orange.
Our readers know that Hughes has long (and I mean, LONG) been on flip watch here at Tomahawk Nation. He’d been sending signals for months about Syracuse specifically. It begs the question, one that has long been asked by the Three Stars
as well as many others who follow Florida State recruiting, why not just cut bait sooner if you know a kid is going to eventually flip? Defensive backs are never a problem for FSU to land.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to folks who’ve followed along. Hughes, in his social media post above, even referenced that this was “just a matter of time”. This is a defining trait of the Norvell recruiting era- not knowing when to cut bait, and conversely (and at times, expensively) fighting losing battles for too long.
Anyway, Hughes will now take his talents to Syracuse and Florida State will continue to fight to hold on to its top defensive back commit Jay Timmons (perhaps even top committed prospect in the class) amidst an enormous push from Ohio State.
