Practice Report (5/19): Notes from the sideline | Giants.com
A couple of rookies stood out during practice. Colton Hood played strong coverage on his side of the field with a pair of forced incompletions. He is excellent at playing with leverage to limit the wide receiver’s space near the sideline. He had a leaping deflection of a pass inside the red zone to prevent a completion and the entire defense cheered when he broke out his signature hoodie celebration.
Rookie Malachi Fields had a highlight of his own that mirrored
a lot of the types of catches we remember from him in college. He jumped near the sideline and reached up with one hand to pluck the ball out of the air for the reception on a pass from Jaxson Dart.
Abdul Carter was a star of practice as he used his elite speed, quickness, and athleticism to get into the backfield to disrupt the Giants offense on multiple occassions. His bend is impossible to miss.

Ranking the 8 NFL teams that can go worst-to-first in 2026 | PFF
3. New York Giants. The NFC East may be a gauntlet, but the Giants should still grow in John Harbaugh’s first season. On the heels of three straight seasons winning no more than six contests — including sitting 27th in overall PFF grade last year — New York hired the veteran Harbaugh to bring stability to the franchise. The former Ravens guide has no shortage of talent to work with on both sides of the ball, with most effort needed to better a defense that ranked 27th in EPA per play and 22nd in secondary coverage grade.
The Giants have the tough task of competing with the Eagles and Cowboys, who each look formidable going into this season. But if Jaxson Dart improves upon his 67.9 overall PFF grade — and if first-round picks Francis Mauigoa and Arvell Reese become instant playmakers — Harbaugh’s bunch could be feisty.
Ex-NFL quarterback sounds alarm on Giants’ Cam Skattebo ahead of Week 1: ‘It’ll be dicey’ | NJ.com
Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms revealed some real concern lurking beneath the surface of the Giants’ offseason optimism.
“When he says, ‘I’m a little ways out,’ that makes me think it’ll be dicey for week one,” Simms said. “And I don’t think he’s going to be 100% himself during week one. Running back, I think, is one of the positions with the Giants where you go, it’s good….He runs hard as hell. He can make people miss. He’s got more speed than people gave him credit for. He kind of lights up that stadium when he does get the ball there at MetLife.”

17. New York Giants at Detroit Lions (Week 16). Detroit does have an electric offense and a devoted home crowd. Jahmyr Gibbs minted a personal 264-yard highlight reel against this opponent last fall. But beat writer Charlotte Carroll predicts a 6-11 finish for John Harbaugh’s first Big Blue bid. Even with a promising draft haul and possible leaps from Jaxson Dart and Malik Nabers, the team could be entirely out of contention come December. If nothing else, maybe we get a second Jameis Winston touchdown catch? Number to know: 4.9. That’s how many wins the Giants have averaged across the last nine years. Barring a massive overachievement in Harbaugh’s debut, this late-season draw feels eminently flex-worthy.
12. New York Giants at Los Angeles Rams (Week 2). Another pairing that definitely benefits from September freshness. A healthy Nabers could line up across from new Rams corner Trent McDuffie. The brick-and-mortar Harbaugh gets to face off against scheme wizard Sean McVay. L.A. supplies the star wattage with Matthew Stafford, Davante Adams and Puka Nacua. It’s Week 2, so we’ll all be tuned in. But Giants-Rams might have the greatest blowout potential of these 17 Monday night clashes. Number to know: -8.5, this game’s opening spread according to several sportsbooks. Right now, it’s the only MNF matchup with a two-score gap.
