Things will take a turn for the awkward later tonight (Sat., May 23, 2026) as Adin Ross rolls out Brand Risk 14 LIVE and FREE on YouTube from inside UFC’s Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will be the promotion’s first time hosting an event from UFC’s in-house venue due in part to Ross’ relationship with UFC CEO, Dana White, who plans to be in attendance.
While Brand Risk 14 looks like a hot dumpster fire on paper there’s still a lot to like about Saturday’s late-night event. After all, fight fans
will be able to see a former Heisman winner, two former NBA standouts, and a R&B legend enter the mixed martial arts (MMA) cage for the very first time. What could possibly go wrong?

The main event of the evening will feature the official combat sports debut of former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback, Johnny Manziel, as well as the mixed martial arts (MMA) debut of comedian and podcast creator, Bob Menery. It’s not a matchup that most people thought they needed, but both fighters appear to be ready to throw down atop Saturday’s card from Meta Apex.
Needless to say, there will be a lot of eyes on Manziel’s matchup with Menery. Not only will Dana White be watching to see if Menery will actually show up to the fight and compete, but a large collection of college football and pro football fans will be tuning in for free to see how much competitiveness and athleticism Manziel has left. All Menery has to do is step inside of the cage and he’ll already be looked at as a winner.
What’s Not
If we’re being honest, there’s not going to be a lot of professional-looking action inside of the cage and ring tonight at Brand Risk 14. While there are a few competitors with previous fight experience it’s certainly nothing to write home about. The majority of fighters will be putting it all on the line for the first time ever and that usually makes for a sloppy watch.
That said, sloppy fights sometime lead to incredible knockout finishes. Let’s just hope some of the larger fighters don’t tire and give fans a reboot of Kimble Slice vs. Dada 5000.
How The “Prelims” Look:
Unless you’re a influencer connoisseur it might be hard to recognize some of the names on this card. If you’re 40 years old like me it comes with the territory, but luckily there is enough here to get the juices flowing.
Outside of the main event between Manziel and Menery, Brand Risk 14 will feature a grudge match between long-time NBA rivals, Michael Beasley and Lance Stephenson. The two basketball players are long-retired from NBA competition, but when they played they were two of the most physical and fearless athletes on the court. It will be interesting to see how much they really hate each other when the cage door closes.
Interest Level: 5/10
At the end of the day, this is a free event that gives fight fans the chance to see former professional athletes take a stab at combat sports. Even if the action is less-than-desirable compared to that of a fine-tuned Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) product, there’s still going to be some knockouts and crazy action inside of the cage. So while fans might knock this event and wonder why it’s being held at the Meta Apex, it should still deliver the goods.
