RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico — The Iowa State women’s golf team made the trip to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico last weekend to compete in their first meet of the 2026 calendar year. Iowa State placed 15th in the 18-team
meet with a collective team score of 878. Iowa State had a team score of 287 in the first round, 292 in the second round and 299 in the third round.
Fellow Big 12 foe Kansas State was also at the meet and placed 6th overall with a team score of 857. Arkansas won the tournament with a team best score of 841. Southeastern Conference schools Ole Miss and Vanderbilt tied for second with scores of 847.
Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn led the Cyclone scores with a three-round score of 213 which included two scores under 70. She had a best round score for Iowa State of 68 which was her first round score and shot a three-under score for the tournament. Isabella Yan and Alexandra Vidal each had top-60 finishes. Yan tied for 55th with a total score of 220 with a best round score of 71 and Vidal tied for 59th with a total score of 221 including a best round score of 72.
Other Iowa State scores were Nichakorn Pinprayoon 223, Pammy Chookaew 224 and Keeley Marx 226.
The Cyclones will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 16-17 in Houston, Texas when they compete in the Texas Golf Throwdown at The Woodlands Country Club. The meet is hosted by Sam Houston State University.
Iowa State travels to Houston this month at the Chevron Collegiate tournament on Monday, Feb. 23 and Tuesday, Feb. 24.
