Northwestern wrestling (3-7, 1-6 B1G) dropped its sixth straight dual meet on Sunday, falling 47-0 to No. 5 Nebraska (10-6, 3-3 B1G).
It was Senior Day in Lincoln, and Sunday’s meet was a party for the
home team. The Huskers took five bouts by technical fall, two by forfeit and three by decision.
No. 30 Eddie Enright provided Northwestern’s best moment of the day in a narrow 6-3 decision loss against No. 4 Christopher Minto at 174 lbs. Minto, who earned All-American honors at the 2025 NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish, nearly toppled No. 1 Levi Haines in Nebraska’s dual meet against No. 1 Penn State on Jan. 30. Enright, a redshirt freshman, lost in a tech fall in his own matchup with Haines, coming just seven seconds short of going the distance against the 2024 national champion at 174 lbs.
While Nebraska does have six losses on the year, each came against a top-five-ranked opponent. Six of the eight Nebraska wrestlers that Northwestern faced are ranked in the top-10 nationally for their weight class, per InterMat. Northwestern lost by forfeit in the 157 lbs and 165 lbs divisions, and each of Nebraska’s top wrestlers at those weights is ranked in the top ten as well.
Northwestern’s Dedrick Navarro nearly put his guys on the board in the opening bout against Kael Lauridsen at 125 lbs. Navarro, the 24th-ranked 125-pounder in the country, battled for all seven minutes in an 11-6 decision. He was within striking distance late until a third-period takedown from Lauridsen sealed the Nebraska victory. Navarro, a redshirt sophomore, has already tied his four Big Ten wins from 2024-25, but he’ll have to wait another day for win number five.
Nebraska rolled through the lightweight divisions, scoring 60 combined points in tech fall victories over Luis Bazan, Billy Dekraker and August Hibler across the 133 lbs, 141 lbs and 149 lbs divisions.
The drubbing continued after a brief pause provided by Enright’s near upset. J.D. Perez and Alex Smith both made it to the third period in their respective matchups, but neither could avoid a tech fall loss.
Heavyweight Dirk Morley closed the afternoon on a relative high note in his matchup with No. 4 AJ Ferrari, going the distance in a 17-4 major decision loss.
Northwestern wrestling is back in action on Friday, Feb. 13 against Northern Illinois, before hosting Illinois in its Big Ten regular-season finale on Sunday, Feb. 15.
