The Tar Heels did something no other team has ever done at North Carolina, go 18-0 at home. The 18 home wins are the most ever and this team becomes the first since the National Champion 2016-17 team to go undefeated at home, joining a long history of teams behind them.
So who deserves Player of the Game for this momentous occasion?
As always, a couple of shout outs before we get to the main event. First goes to the seniors Elijah Davis and Seth Tremble, who were both honored before and during the game.
Davis, who has played 10 total minutes this season, didn’t do anything, though he also didn’t do anything negative, which is a plus. Meanwhile, Trimble scored the first points of the game and the last point of the game, finishing with a meager nine points and four rebounds in what may be the last four year player to ever don the Carolina Blue (hopefully not, but the transfer portal is real).
Next shoutouts go to two bigs who provided UNC with some strong play down low. Henri Veesaar, who struggled with fouls this evening, gave the team 13 big points while going 6-8 inside the arc, while Jarin Stevenson finished one point shy of a double-double but led the team in rebounds including grabbing three huge offensive rebounds in the game.
So with all that covered, Player of the Game goes to Luka Bogavac, who came off the bench this game so that Elijah Davis could start. Bogavac finished with a season/collegiate career high 20 points, including a whopping 17 in the second half. The international player went 6-10 from beyond the arc including two ridiculous triples coming off screens in the second half, with one of them so big even coach Hubert Davis was jumping around like a fan.
If Bogavac is just now heating up, watch out America because Caleb Wilson is returning and the Tar Heels are just getting started.
