This quote’s been floating around from the man who will challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight championship tomorrow night (Oct. 10) at Money in the Bank, and it seemed like something we should get the best dang pro wrestling community on the interwebs’ thoughts on.
We have certainly had our fair share of discussions and debates about LA Knight: the originality of his character and gimmick, his in-ring ability, his age, his reputation with bosses and co-workers behind-the-scenes, how
over (popular) he is, and whether he will or should get a run with one of WWE’s top belts.
So as he gets ready for his fifth shot at one of them this weekend in New Orleans, this quote from Knight’s chat with TMZ’s Inside The Ring seemed worth chewing on. It’s the Megastar talking about why Money in the Bank is a pivotal moment for him:
“… look, I can’t necessarily say it is my last one ever. I don’t know. I mean, it could be. Who knows? I might retire next week. You never know.
“But no, it’s just a matter of, it’s been so long that this has just been kind of hanging by a string where … so many people ask, ‘How has LA Knight not been World Champion yet?’ And that is a big time question to where it’s almost put up or shut up. Do or die. This is the time to do it.
“And if it doesn’t happen here, it’s just kind of like, ‘Where do I go from here?’”
Is it put up or shut up time for WWE creative when it comes to Knight? And if he doesn’t win, what do they do with him next? Can he still be seen as a main eventer?
Personally, I firmly believe that almost anybody can work in almost any position with the right story… but that doesn’t mean I always know what the right story is. If I did, maybe I’d be working with Triple H instead of hanging with his friend Mark.
What say you, Cagesiders?
