What a game. What a shot. What a moment that will live on for the rest of our lives.
Kentucky Basketball knocked off Santa Clara in historic fashion, 89-84 in an overtime thriller that will easily be among the Wildcats best NCAA Tournament games we’ve seen in recent memory.
Otega Oweh, the SEC Preseason Player of the Year, played hero in the final seconds of regulation to ensure the Wildcats had a chance to play on Sunday.
In what was a crazy last minute of regulation, Oweh’s ‘One Shining Moment’ became
etched in history. With just nine seconds to play, the New Jersey native tied the game up at 70 with a layup just under the rim.
The Broncos inbounded the ball, dribbled up the court as Allen Graves pulled up from 24 feet and drained the bucket, leaving the Wildcats with just two seconds on the clock, and then the rest was history.
Before Denzel Aberdeen threw the inbounds pass to Oweh, Broncos head coach Herb Sendek was running down the sideline, begging for a timeout as Oweh dribbled up the court, who then ultimately banked in a 32-footer to send the game to overtime.
The Wildcats then outscored the Bronocs 16-11 in what was both teams’ first overtime of the season. It was Kentucky’s first NCAA Tournament overtime win since 2000 vs. St. Bonaventure.
Oweh put the Wildcats on his back in St. Louis on Friday afternoon. He finished the game with 35 points, eight rebounds, and 7 assists with just two turnovers in 43 minutes played.
Oweh’s shot will be one of the most remarkable shots in Wildcats history and March Madness as the Cats will move on to the Round of 32 on Sunday.
