The MLB Draft Lottery was held earlier today and the results were recently revealed on MLB Network.
The Cubs were not part of the lottery, as only the 18 teams that did not make the postseason were eligible
for the lottery. That’s good, right?
Anyway, the Cubs will pick 23rd in the first round of the 2026 MLB Draft. Here are the results of the lottery:
The Rockies, who had MLB’s worst record in 2025 at 43-119, were not eligible to pick in the top 10 because they had a lottery pick in the 2024 and 2025 drafts and a team cannot pick that high three years in a row. So, the No. 1 pick went to the White Sox, who had MLB’s second-worst record this past season.
The Nationals and Angels, as clubs who pay into revenue sharing rather than receive it, were also not eligible for a Top 10 pick, so they will choose 11th and 12th.
The Dodgers wound up losing position in the Draft because of their signing of Edwin Diaz today (Bluesky link):
I’m guessing the Dodgers don’t care much about that. Their first pick in 2026 will be the 40th overall pick:
The MLB Draft will be held next July in Philadelphia as part of All-Star Weekend festivities.
