Wolves are in a very bad place, one in which is very difficult to find a way out without a massive overhaul from top to bottom. Their entire model seems to have reared its ugly head, with the little talent they had at their hands now gone to seemingly greener pastures.
It wouldn’t take long for Chelsea to take the hosts to task. First with a good long-range shot from Andrey Santos, and later with a Tyrique George poach. Both assisted by the oft-criticized Jamie Gittens.
Wolves would try to get something
going in response after going down to 2-0 in under 15 minutes and they nearly got it. At least up until Estêvão got a third with an absolute wonderful lob over goalkeeper José Sá in a one-versus-one created entirely thanks to Andrey’s great pressing work.
Had Chelsea kept up concentration they could have gone out of the Molineux with a clean sheet. That was no longer possible once Tolu Arokodare, who had already gotten close to scoring a goal right after the second half kick-off, did so a few minutes after that first event.
Chelsea were struggling to get back control of a match that looked like smooth sailing had they just continued what they were doing in the first half. The substitutions didn’t provide much help in that regard, with Liam Delap going as a far as getting a double yellow card in 25 minutes of play. But we held strong and got through.
Carefree!
- Roméo Lavia + Andrey Santos midfield.
- Two assists for Jamie Gittens in the first half. Not too shabby!
- Estêvão’s technique will take most of the focus in his amazing goal. But you can’t ignore Andrey’s hustle to get the ball to him in the first place.
- An extremely poor effort from Chelsea in this second half, nearly undoing everything they did almost to perfection in the first part of the match.
- Next up: Tottenham away in the Premier League.
