After several weeks of uproar, it felt as if a dark cloud of apathy had been cast over the Kentucky football program.
A trip to 4-4 Auburn wasn’t exactly a recipe to ignite a fire under the Big Blue Nation.
But playing an SEC game under the lights is always enough to reel us back in.
Hopefully, you even had the opportunity to watch the game, as the ongoing ESPN disputes prevented many from seeing Saturday’s slate of games. If not, you sure didn’t miss much in the first half. Some say that the first two quarters resembled the battle of “mid” way. Both teams combined for 215 yards of total offense – it was brutal. A field goal by each side contributed to the only scoring, and the game went into the break tied 3-3.
Cutter Boley and the Cats didn’t waste anytime finding the end zone coming out of the locker room. A 13-yard hook-up to Boley capped off an impressive scoring drive, taking a 10-3 lead.
If you like defense, the second half featured a gem of a performance by UK. Credit to Brad White’s crew for absolutely locking up the Auburn offense all night long. The Tigers couldn’t find any continuity and even resorted to rotating quarterbacks which still didn’t produce any success.
The Cats hang on to win 10-3 in what was a gutty performance by a team that didn’t have many believers in their ability to win an SEC game on the road.
Highlights
MVP
Brad White and the entire defensive unit get the nod for MVP. The Cats were relentless all night, swarming the Auburn offense and thwarting any momentum the Tigers could muster. After getting destroyed with the deep ball a week ago against Tennessee, it had to feel great for the defensive unit to come up with such a masterpiece in UK’s first SEC win of the 2025 season.
The defense allowed only 241 total yards and three points. Their dominating pressure resulted in seven sacks and 13 tackles for loss. Just an incredible display of execution by the Kentucky defense.
