The Washington Commanders are preparing to host the Las Vegas Raiders at Northwest Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Their last game was a rough one against the Packers in Green Bay. They had at least six players injured during the short-week game, and three of them have already been placed on injured reserve. The other three didn’t practice today, and their status hasn’t improved since last week.
RB Austin Ekeler(Achilles) and DE Deatrich Wise Jr(quad) both needed surgery and are done for the season.
CB Jonathan Jones was placed on IR today with a hamstring injury, but head coach Dan Quinn said he’d be back later in the year.
Jayden Daniels is obviously the big name on the list, and Quinn said he wouldn’t practice until Friday at the earliest. He wants to see his young QB practice before giving him a game status designation. He was inside the facility during today’s practice in the bubble, and will be doing the same tomorrow. Marcus Mariota is ready to step in after missing most of the offseason while dealing with Achilles tendonitis.
TE John Bates and WR Noah Brown both suffered groin injuries and their outlook for playing this week are not looking good. Quinn said Brown was a longshot to play, and he’s had an extensive injury history throughout his playing career. Bates could have a better chance to play, but Quinn would only say they would know more on Friday. Bates is the best blocking TE in the league, and an important part of their offensive planning.
