We all know that the Detroit Tigers are the greatest Major League Baseball franchise of all time: the tradition, the perfect uniforms and the Olde English D are all among the greatest in sports. After all, this is the Bless You Boys sports blog.
However, a large portion of baseball fans also have a secondary — and maybe even tertiary and beyond — team that they root for when the Motor City Kitties are out of action. There is a myriad of reasons why a person might pick another team to follow, ranging
from geographical proximity to something as simple as liking a franchise’s uniforms.
For me personally, I grew up following the Chicago Cubs alongside the Tigers. A big reason for this was the national access WGN offered back when they broadcast a majority, if not all, of the games; another reason was that Andre Dawson went to high school with my parents — pretty cool. It also helped that this was before interleague play, so I never had to worry about rooting against either team.
Fully-integrated interleague play and the abolition of the designated hitter made things a bit murky in recent years, but there are still plenty of reasons to root for more than one squad.
So, who is your “other” team? Let us know in the comments along with an explanation, or if you are truly loyal to the Tigers, tell us why.
