Darren Till was in attendance at Misfits Mania: The Fight Before Christmas in Dubai this weekend, and by the end of it he was clearly questioning the life choices that led him to be discussed alongside Chase DeMoor and Andrew Tate.
DeMoor, the Misfits heavyweight champion and upcoming Love Island contestant, beat kickboxer turned pimp turned influencer Tate in a sloppy brawl that did little to elevate either man (watch the lowlights here). DeMoor will never pay for a pint again in his life after exposing
Tate as a charlatan with a padded record, but the striking on display was so poor it led to Till leaving the arena halfway through their fight.
After leaving the UFC, Till has struggled to secure legit fights. Now he’s signed with Misfits, and is 2-0 against fellow former MMA fighters. In August “The Gorilla” knocked Rockhold out, earning the Misfits bridgerweight title. But will Misfits book him against the guys he wants to fight, like Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz? Or is he fated to fight Tate or DeMoor?
There was a decent chance the winner of Tate vs. DeMoor would call Darren out, leading to an in-ring faceoff. Instead, he walked out on the fight halfway through. The Stomping Grounds caught up with Till, who was just intoxicated enough to let us know how he really felt about the awful product on display in Dubai.
“I’ve gone, haven’t I? What do you think I’ve made of it?” Till said. “I started myself on pure not mixed martial arts but pure striking martial arts, and we started on the purity of that. I’m just watching a pair of numpties outside the Irish pub.”
“I’ve given my life, 20 years, to this sport,” he said. “Blood sweat and tears. I consider myself to be one of the best striking martial artists in the world. And then a pair of numpties like that call me out and I’m sat ringside? I have to leave, cuz it disrespects everything I believe in, everything I’ve trained for.”
“What am I watching? I’m actually un-learning as I’m watching.”
Asked if he’d fight Tate or DeMoor if the money was right, Till let loose a mouth fart and walked off camera. Well said, sir.
