A few days have passed since John Mozeliak officially stepped down as president of baseball operations and was replaced by Chaim Bloom. Mo had his final press conference on Monday and Bloom was introduced as his successor on Tuesday.
I know many people, including some of us here at Viva El Birdos have already expressed their opinion on Bloom’s introductory presser, but I just wanted to give my thoughts on what was said and what it means for the Cardinals.
This won’t be a recap of what took place, but
rather just me giving my thoughts on the future of the Cardinals. So, here we go.
Chaim Bloom won Cardinals fans over in press conference
I know I’m not the first to say it, but I was really impressed with Bloom. He conducted himself in such a professional manner and it was nice to see. One thing we as fans have struggled with is how Mo isn’t always very transparent about what his plans are and sort of dodges questions. But that wasn’t the case with Bloom.
While I didn’t expect Bloom to give away everything and be fully transparent, he didn’t avoid any questions, and he did his best to answer every one of them honestly. In truth, it was just a nice breath of fresh air for Cardinals fans who have been dying for new leadership at the top. Bloom was very straightforward and clear about his plan to make the Cardinals better in the future. He obviously understands that fans are upset with the way things have gone, and he even said he and his group would give the fans what they want and deserve.
Now, actions speak louder than words, but Bloom presented himself well and didn’t beat around the bush at all. He was open and honest and even expressed a desire to win every year. That’s different from Mozeliak saying it, because Mo always sent mixed messages. This seemed very direct and to the point.
He also was very enthusiastic, citing a lot of Cardinals history. You could tell that he had done his homework over the past two years. He studied the organization, its history and what needs to be done to fix what went wrong. I get the sense that he’s very happy to have this opportunity and will deliver on his promises. That is what fans want to see and hear.
Of course, the Cardinals are rebuilding, and Bloom didn’t hesitate to say that winning in the short term would be secondary to building up for the long haul. But I’d rather that than have Mo say he’s going to do one thing and do something entirely different.
I personally am very excited about the future, and this is the first time in a while that I can honestly say that. I think Cardinals fans should be excited too. Bloom seems to be much different than Mozeliak in a lot of ways, and that is what is needed right now, a fresh perspective on things.
I truly believe that he will do everything in his power to make this rebuild go as quickly as possible. There is a lot of work ahead, but he is the right guy to do all that work.
