Now that WrestleMania 42 has come and gone, the lingering criticism is focused on how much of April 18-19’s event in Las Vegas was dedicated to advertising and promotion rather than pro wrestling. But heading into last week’s shows, there was a lot of talk about how many celebrities WWE and its corporate parent TKO were cramming onto the card.
We’ve already heard how the most criticized guest star at ‘Mania wrapped up his involvement on The Pat McAfee Show earlier this week. Jelly Roll offered his own
thoughts on his role at the Showcase of the Immortals — elbow dropping Pat Mac through an announce table to send him off on a stretcher. McAfee returned to get his butt kicked some more, so Roll didn’t end the Cody-hating former punter’s involvement in the Undisputed WWE title Night One main event. But he’d been trying to get Pat out of the Rhodes/Orton match and story, and so he’s still giving himself partial credit.
In his vlog of the past week, the country music star is seen taking a golf cart through Allegiant Stadium after playing his role. Roll says:
“I had one goal tonight and I kind of succeeded. Pat, I love you man, neither one of us had any business here. I say we get back to what we’re good at man, even though I’m not actually really good at anything. But, you’re great at something so go do it. I’ll keep searching for what I’m going to do when I grow up.”
Again, that fits the story, so Jelly’s not expressing regret for chasing his pro wrestling dream. But it’s funny to hear given the persistent negative narratives around WrestleMania 42. We’ll also hope it’s confirmation the threatened Jelly Roll & Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton & Pat McAfee Backlash match is off.
What do you think of how Jelly Roll wrapped up his ‘Mania story?
