John Cena was back in a WWE ring last night (Nov. 2), once again rocking cargo shorts so he can technically stick to his “no more jorts” post-retirement promise
while conveniently ignoring the part where he swore he’d never wear “the uniform” again and only be seen in a suit-and-tie after Gunther made him tap out last December. But you didn’t click in here to for Cena fashion talk, though*.
The reason Cena was back on Raw from Brooklyn was to reveal the first details of The John Cena Classic, the event
he’s been teasing and hyping throughout most of his retirement. So far we know it’s happening on Mon., Dec. 14 from Orlando, Florida’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, that the winner will get a championship belt based on Cena’s old spinner belts (that doesn’t spin, for some stupid reason). Cody Rhodes will be one of the main roster stars competing against a member of the NXT roster… and that’s it.
We should get some more information, and maybe the first NXT name for The Cena Classic, when The Never Seen 17 is in Orlando tomorrow night for the loaded episode NXT that’s airing on The CW opposite AEW’s Blood & Guts edition of Dynamite. The other Cena date we got on Raw was Nov. 28 for Survivor Series in Houston, so we’re expecting a slow drip of Cena Classic news heading toward the first one next month.
WWE announced a couple more Cena appearances today: on the Nov. 13 SmackDown and the following Monday’s Raw.
A couple entrants revealed at each stop, maybe? Let us know in the comments what you think Cena will say or do in his latest WWE run, this one building to his new Classic.
* If you’re not new here and you peeped the byline? You probably should have expected it.
