Barcelona were linked with a move for Etta Eyong in the summer transfer window and remain keen on the 21-year-old attacker, according to Diario Sport.
The new report states that Barcelona have followed Eyong since his time in Cadiz’s youth academy and know he would prioritise a move to Catalunya if it becomes an option.
Barca are continuing to keep tabs on Eyong this season and will surely be impressed by what they have seen. The youngster has five goals and three assists in eight appearances for Villarreal.
It seems signing a new No. 9 will be a priority for Barca next summer, as Robert Lewandowski could well wave goodbye to the club and leave on a free transfer.
Julian Alvarez has been mentioned as a possible replacement, but it’s hard to see how Barcelona would be able to afford a deal for the Atletico star.
Eyong is expected to be available for around €30 million, a much lower fee, although his signing would still represent something of a gamble for Barca due to his lack of top level experience.
