Fresh off a Super Regional sweep of Auburn that you may recall as moderately enjoyable, Ole Miss learned their next opportunity to make a national seed sad will be this Friday at 6 PM in God’s time zone.
The Rebels will take on overall fifth seed North Carolina in Game Two of the 2026 Men’s College World Series, and, for those of us not in attendance, ESPN will provide television/streaming coverage.
If Ole Miss wins, they’ll play the winner of West Virginia/Troy at 6 PM on Sunday. Should things go
sideways and they lose, they’ll play the loser of West Virginia/Troy at 1 PM on Sunday in an elimination game.
Win or lose, Ole Miss gets a day off and wouldn’t have to play back-to-back games until a potential Wednesday/Thursday (winner’s bracket) or Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday stretch (loser’s bracket). That’s good news for a bullpen that’s been elite but is thin.
Like Thin Mint cookies thin. And probably not as good as Thin Mints that have been in the freezer for a few days. But then again, FEW THINGS ARE.
Also of note, the United States Men’s National Team kicks off its World Cup campaign on Friday night at 8 PM against Paraguay. It’s the first of three group stage games for Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, and it would be super duper cool if Ole Miss could have their game against UNC well in hand by the time our national team takes the field.
It’s probably not likely to happen, but dear little 8-pound tiny baby Jesus, if we could not have two sources of CRIPPLING anxiety going on at once, that would be great. At the very least, can we limit the overlap.
We here at Red Cup Rebellion will have more Omaha-related things throughout the week, but I wanted to end with an appreciation for our vanquished foe Auburn. More specifically, a fan behind home plate who knew before anyone that Will Furniss just hit a two-run dinger to give Ole Miss a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the 8th.
RELATABLE.
Shout-out to a knower of launch angle and exit velocity via the ol’ eye test.
