On Thursday in The Feed, I asked, “Did WWE Vault just take a shot at Jericho?”
That question came after the classic YouTube channel featured a match between Chris Jericho and Roman Reigns, where Reigns slapped and beat Jericho while announcer Corey Graves questioned Jericho’s plan.
The Vault’s post seemed tied to recent rumors of Jericho’s return to WWE, with the latest buzz claiming, “There is significant interest in WWE for Chris Jericho to return to the company after his AEW contract expires.”
Those
who responded to my inquiry seemed to think it was a stretch for me to believe there was something to the Vault’s post.
Well, well, well — look at what we have here.
Today, WWE Vault uploaded another curious Jericho gem from his days in the company. This time, it’s his 2005 match against John Cena — exactly 20 years to the day — where Jericho was fired by then-Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff. At the time, the angle served as a way to write Jericho off the show as he prepared to leave the promotion.
“You son of a bitch, you’re fired,” screamed Bischoff.
“I have a wife, I have a son — I have a 3-year-old son. Please don’t fire me,” Jericho pleads.
“I don’t care about you, your wife or your damn kid,” Bischoff barked back. “Now get out of my ring.”
As I stated on Thursday, those running the Vault seem to know exactly what they’re doing as these Jericho-to-WWE rumors gain traction. Whether it’s clever trolling or a subtle nudge to the fans — and Jericho himself — the message feels deliberate. Depending on how one interprets it, that message could be playful, or perhaps even a veiled statement that WWE isn’t interested.
At least not yet.
What say you now, Cagesiders?
