Let’s just ask the question that’s on everyone’s mind this week.
Before the season started, Ben Johnson stated that he wanted to break the all-time scoring mark, which was set by the 2013 Denver Broncos, who scored 606 points and averaged 37.9 points per game.
Everyone blew off the comment as “Ben being Ben,” but after scoring 59 points with no defensive or special teams touchdowns, suddenly everyone started talking around the league that perhaps Johnson might have a shot at this.
Will the Chicago Bears break the all-time scoring record?
Now the Bears get
an extra game, so they don’t have to average quite as many points; 35.7 points per game gets them to 607 points and the record. Thanks to the 59-point outburst, the Bears now just need to average 34.25 points per game the rest of the way to get the record.
Can they do it? How many points do you think they’ll finish the season with?
Answer: I just want to run with this thing and go all-in and say yes, but it’s still so many points to score. One 17-point game basically just wipes out any chance they have at this thing.
So no, I don’t think the Bears will break the all-time scoring record. But I do think there are several things that this offense will accomplish.
The 1985 Bears hold the team record for most points in a season at 456. I think that record gets obliterated. I think the Bears easily score 500 points this season. I also think the Bears could have a top-ten offense all-time.
To break into the top 10, the Bears would need to score 540 points per game. With the 59-point outburst, the Bears need to average 30.1 points per game the rest of the way to get there. I think that is certainly possible, and I would go as far as to say that’s probable.
This Bears offense is going to put up some historic numbers; I’m confident about that, but I just don’t think that 607 points will be in the cards in 2026.
What do you say, Bears fans? Do you think they can break the all-time scoring record? How many points do you think they will score? Sound off in the comments section!
