The Eagles weren’t able to get out of Tampa unscathed, and had several notable injuries during Sunday’s game. In the first half, it was DE Ogbo Okoronkwo (triceps) and RG Tyler Steen (knee), and then in the second
half, it was RT Lane Johnson (shoulder) and DT Jalen Carter (shoulder) — Saquon Barkley was also slow to get up later in the game, but was able to stay in.
Jalen Carter was listed as questionable to return due to his shoulder injury, but soon afterward was back on the field. Unfortunately, that didn’t last long, and the NFL’s top defender, was once again sidelined through the end of the game.
For obvious reasons having Carter, along with Lane Johnson, injured is going to be a problem for both sides of the ball. We saw in Week 1 what the Eagles defense would look like without Carter’s elite dominance up front, and even though Fred Johnson is a solid back-up, Lane Johnson is 1-of-1 at right tackle.
Hopefully these guys aren’t out long term. The Eagles have the Broncos, the Vikings, and the Giants twice before their Week 9 bye, but that’s a lot of football for guys already banged up looking for a break — they do have a mini-bye after their Thursday night game against the Giants in Week 6, but a couple extra days isn’t quite the same.
