For those who have missed out on the last few weeks, we started with 64 reasonably good things in life, seeded somewhat randomly into a March Madness type bracket. In the days since, readers have voted in heads-up matchups pitting one against another. We’re now in the fourth round, headed rapidly towards the Final Four and Championship matchups which will determined the Best Thing Ever for
2026. All of this is our way of keeping discussion going during the NBA quiet time of August and September.

Today’s post offers you a choice between Dolly Parton and Toast.
Dolly Parton had a tough road through the bracket. She’s beaten Google, Otters, and Santa Claus himself to make it this far! Music is one reason. Her kind spirit which outshined even her recent passing is another. In times of turmoil and division, Dolly always seemed to watch out for folks. She reminded us to be kind. As such, her reputation far outpaced even her considerable musical career.
Toast came through the other side of the bracket by defeating Nintendo, Anime, and Coffee Shops. There’s something comforting about that warm, crumbly crunch, plus your ability to play artist with a variety of toppings on the bread. It doesn’t need much explanation. It’s just good!
