If fans thought that former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll would be out of work for a while, they may have been mistaken.
The Buffalo Bills are bringing Daboll in for an in-person interview, per multiple reports.
Daboll was linked to the Bills’ head coaching vacancy almost immediately after Sean McDermott was fired. He was the Bills’ offensive coordinator for four years (2018-2021) prior to leaving for the Giants and is widely loved in Buffalo. Daboll is a native of the area, growing up in Hamburg,
N.Y. and stayed in Western New York to attend college at the University of Rochester.
Daboll is incredibly familiar with the Bills’ organization and the roster, particularly quarterback Josh Allen. As an offensive-minded coach, Daboll would provide a significant contrast to the defensive-minded McDermott.
Daboll has received significant interest around the NFL, and also interviewed for the Tennessee Titans’ head coaching vacancy. While the Titans ultimately hired Robert Saleh, they’re still pursuing Daboll for their offensive coordinator position. Daboll has also interviewed for the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator opening.
Dianna Russinni of The Athletic reports that while Daboll very much wants to be the Bills’ next head coach, he will take the Titans’ offensive coordinator opening to coach Cam Ward if he doesn’t get the Bills’ job.
Daboll will have stiff competition for the Bills’ head coaching job, and the list currently includes:
- Lou Anarumo (Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator)
- Joe Brady (Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator)
- Grant Udinski (Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator)
- Anthony Lynn (Washington Commanders running backs coach)
- Anthony Weaver (Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator)
