Do you even know the epic highs and lows of Cleveland Guardians baseball? If not, they provided some pretty low lows this week. Thankfully, I was also able to scrounge through those moments to find some nice highs as well.
Stephen Makes Debut
Since acquiring pitcher Khal Stephen at the trade deadline, the Guardians have been helping him nurse a right shoulder injury. He began throwing about two weeks ago and finally made his return to the mound on Sunday. In Akron, he threw three full innings. He gave up zero runs on two hits
and struck out two. This marked his first time throwing in a game since July 20th – over a month ago. If he can continue to find this success, he will most likely find himself in Triple-A Columbus soon. Who knows? We may even see him in Cleveland’s bullpen in late September.
Messick to the Majors
Cleveland’s number 12 prospect, Parker Messick, made his Major League debut on Wednesday. Messick threw 6 ⅔ innings, giving up just one run on seven hits. He struck out six Diamondbacks and walked only one. While he was not able to secure a win (thanks, bullpen), he has so much to be proud of in his debut. Messick’s next start comes Tuesday night against Shane Baz of the Tampa Bay Rays at Progressive Field.
Fun Week Ahead
If we ignore that any baseball is being played this week, there is much to look forward to at Progressive Field this week. The fun begins Tuesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays with Peanuts Night. WIth a special ticket package, fans can pick up a Snoopy x Guardians bobblehead to celebrate 75 years of the legendary beagle and his friends. Later in the week, fans can begin their weekend by picking up a free t-shirt at the gate, and an endless amount of dollar hot dogs inside the gate. After Friday night’s game, stick around to watch Rock ‘n’ Blast, one of the Guardians’ biggest fireworks shows of the season. Saturday includes another giveaway, this time a City Connect bucket hat. To close out the weekend, fans can choose one of two special ticket packages on Sunday – either a Cookie Monster Sesame Street bobblehead or a Cleveland State University cap.
