Barcelona have been in talks with Racing Santander for a few weeks trying to negotiate a deal for Jorge Salinas, but they appear to have competition.
According to reports in England, Manchester United have serious interest in the 19-year-old left-back, who is their main alternative to Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall, the top target for manager Michael Carrick at the position.
If Man United fail to land Hall, they are prepared to trigger Salinas’ €16 million release clause and bring the youngster in to compete
with Luke Shaw for the starting job.
Barça’s main obstacle in the negotiations has been the €16 million release clause: the club want to pay only €6 million and include La Masia prospects as part of the deal, while Racing want the full amount of the release clause in cash, according to reports from Catalan media.
Losing Salinas would not be the end of the world for Barça as they see the player, who recently won the under-19 EURO with Spain, as a future project in the same mold as recent signing Jesse Bisiwu, but they are still hoping to reach a deal with Racing before other clubs swoop in.
