Seven Castain scored two goals, while Cate Sarinopoulos added a goal in the second half as No. 11 TCU knocked off No. 10 Baylor 3-0 in a pivotal Big 12 match at Garvey-Rosenthal on Thursday evening. It
was the third ranked opponent in the last five matches for the Horned Frogs (11-2-1, 5-1-1 Big 12), who drew Texas Tech on Oct. 10 after outlasting Kansas 3-2 late last month. TCU dominated the matchup against the Bears on Thursday night, outshooting Baylor 25-8 and finishing with a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal as well as an 8-5 advantage on corner kicks. The Horned Frogs continued Big 12 action against Oklahoma State on Sunday evening.
TCU took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute, when Castain scored the first of her two goals on an assist from Emma Yolinski. Castain earned her brace shortly after, converting an assist from Cameron Patton in the 27th minute to put the Horned Frogs ahead 2-0. TCU, which held a 10-4 advantage in shots during the first half, added a third goal during the 54th minute, when Sarinopoulos booted in a pass from teammate Morgan Brown to ice the Horned Frog victory. Thursday’s win was the third top-15 victory this season for the Horned Frogs, who’ve already beaten Iowa and Kansas. It was also the fourth multi-goal game of the season for Castain.
Olivia Geller recorded one save and was one of four players to be on the field for all 90 minutes Thursday night. The 25 shots and 14 shots on goal were both season bests for the Horned Frogs, who remained near the top of the Big 12 women’s soccer standings with the win. With 35 career goals, including 12 this season, Castain is one goal away from being second in TCU history.
